Adventures of Trent & Jane

 We took off from Killarney and headed for the Atlantic coast.  We stopped a played at Ballyheigue which was another castle course.  We actually stopped at the gates of the castle grabbed the clubs and then realized we were at hole 9 and the clubhouse was at the castle! Course was a nice 9 holes overlooking the sea. Onto the road once more. We need to look at Ballybunion just because, €400 per person is a little outside our budget.  And the road leads us to Foynes, they did a lot of aviation history here. Especially with flying boats. There is a huge one here but we were too late to get in to see it. We got to see its behind though! Maybe next trip for the interior. Limerick is the next stop. We rented a room in an apartment. Limerick is a more industrial town and appears new than the places we have been before. Not brand new but not ancient. It’s a busy city but friendly.  We were pointed in the direction of the Ring of Kerry to take us into rural Ireland to see the majesty and history. Jane found an itinerary on line that will take us to what we want to see.  First stop, Blarney Castle to kiss the stone (NOT). We did the lineup to get to the top of the castle but passed on the stone thing. It is quite the place. A lot of stories around why the stone is here but no indication as to why it was placed where it is. From Blarney to Kenmare, our first stop on the Ring of Kerry. The roads are as they always are, close, winding and beautiful. Well it’s tomorrow, and golf is on the agenda. Kenmare Golf Club is calling. We went to see the stone ring first.  After touching all the stones and hanging a wish on the Hawthorn it’s to the club we go. The young fellow at the stone Ring told us it’s a good course, ‘the first two holes are pretty good for a warmup, the third through twelve will work you over then you get to recover by the water for the fina...

 Today we headed off towards Kilkenny. Trent spotted Shelaigh on the map and joked, we should stop there as this is where the walking sticks originated and lucky for him, it was on a route. Well, now we have a stick! Onward to Waterford to see some crystal. There is an island golf course there with a castle overlooking it. We booked a tee time and played, it’s a beautiful day and everyone comments on how lucky we are with the weather! Very nice course, well treed and quiet.  What a nice town, not at all like Kilkenny. Quieter and more normal seeming. There is a lot here, Vikings, castles, a harbour and of course the crystal factory. We found a nice, quiet B&B just out of town with a wonderful view. You can see the island course from here!  Today (May 11) we see the crystal factory. Pretty amazing. Almost all the work is done by hand for the higher quality products.  Onward and eastward. We have a wedding to go to, no sense waiting till the last minute!  Just to clarify, the wedding is in Austria at the end of May. We thought we would add a few days at the before and after, just to make it interesting. We flew to Ireland on the 6th of May (arrived on the 7th, took the redeye).  Landed Dublin, collected car and clubs and off to Bray for lunch. Nice little seaside town. Good fish and chips, drank Guinness of course while Jane had Bulmer’s. Not feeling too bad so off to Wicklow for golf and sleep (not necessarily in that order). Another pretty nice town. We got to our B&B and checked in with Judy. Nice lady, good little room with private bath, very comfy. Hoping to stave off the jet lag we wandered town, got some dinner and hit a couple pubs. It’s quiet being Wednesday in early May. Really pretty town on the coast, seems busy but not rushed. Tomorrow we will go to Glendalough Park to see the monestary ruins and lake, then maybe golf...

 We have had a busy few days north of Salta in Jujuy province. We based ourselves out of a small town Purmamarca.  When we arrived they where having a festival allowing them to have fun and then bury the devil on Sunday, along with their costumes, this also involved dusting festival goers, lucky we avoided that part of the celebration.     The first day we went to Hornocal, the 14 colors mountain.  We shared a 4x4 ride with a danish family. Michael, Signe and baby Helena.  Great day with magnificent scenery, lamas, mountains.  The next day we walked up to the 7 colors mountain a short jaunt from the hotel, impressive as we were able to be closer.         The  off we went to the salt flats, 60 km away!  What we didn’t realize was that the road went up a pass 4170 meters high!    The salt flats where amazing they have 15000 trenches dug where the salt forms from the soil, volcanic, and they harvest     ...
