Another day Another Ocean

 Another Day Another Ocean

We had one night in Panama City before heading to Bocas Del Toro. We decided a nice dinner out would fit the bill. There are a number of rooftop restaurants in the old city so that was the choice. The first one was too hard to get into, the second one had too much avocado but the third one was just right.

Well, the water may look the same but it’s a different set of salt. I wonder if the Atlantic is saltier than the Pacific? I guess we’ll find out.

Early flight, restless night cause you’re worried about missing the alarm! Get up race around grab an Uber. 15 minutes to the airport, PAC. Not a very large airport, looks like mostly turboprops flying out of here. Away we go to Bocas Del Toro (the bull’s mouth).

Lots to see when the clouds part, a different view of the canal.

On landing we noticed a lot of standing water, looking like it has just stopped raining. On the ground it had just stopped. Apparently it rains at night here a lot. We found out that they are doing some serious pipeline work, not sure if it’s sewer or storm water repairs but some of the streets are pretty messed up. It’s easy walking around town though and generally the construction can be avoided.

An interesting little place, busy, not quite as hot as Nuevo Gorgona but then we are on an island. Found our B&B and were able to check in. $6 for a taxi from the airport. Got settled, went for a walk. Time to find a dive shop. We interviewed 5 and decided that between the walking time and the price, the first shop, Bocas Pirate Diving was the one. We have 8 dives booked, 2 each day for Friday, Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.

A power failure slowed the process a little but we head to Skully Beach to hang out. We actually got to literally hang out. They had a double bed sized swing out over the water so we climbed on. The beach itself was not spectacular, lots of rocks but it was very relaxing to swing over the light surf. Next time we’ll take a camera. Unfortunately there was no beer to aid in the experience. Another dry day in Panama. It’s Martyrs Day. No alcohol sales or casinos.

There are some good restaurants here. We tried a couple. Next time we can have wine but of course, no alcohol for 12 hours before diving. The morning dives are at nine! We’ll try to get some photos of the dive site for you.
