Florence: The Jewel of Italy

The title is only my opinion but that is what I think. There is so much art scattered around this city it is hard not to run into it. I came for several reasons but the primary one is the David. I think it is the greatest piece of sculpture on the planet.

Our apartment is nice a little way out but the tram is handy. Jane discovered that if we tap on the tram with our Visa card it is free. Apparently, Visa sponsored the tap machines so Visa users get a perk for the first year or some.

It is hot and busy in the city. We checked out the main square and the Ponte Vecchio. Lots of nice gold that we dare not buy. If you have to ask how much you can’t afford it! We shopped a bit in the morning at the market near the Odeon Theatre.

Apparently Apple has a good location, just down the street from the Ponte Vecchio.

I came to Florence for a few reasons but the most important one was to see the David. I wasn’t smart enough to buy tickets a week or so ago so when I looked I could only get 6 PM. Jane does not want to go so she will meet me after and we will find a nice dinner.

Florence is full of sculpture, every square has something and they are all by renowned artist. I wander and looked intil my time came. The David! I think it is the most impressive piece of stone ever created. There is intensity and motion in it. The Captive or Prisoners in the hall leading to it are equally as impressive and they are not even complete. I will not wax on about it as I am sure you don’t really want to hear my interpretation of the statue or the artist.

So we end our evening in Florence with a delightful dinner and return to the room to pack for home. The end of our trip is nigh and the return to our real life is upon us. We may return, Italy didn’t seem as expensive or as crowded as we had thought it might be. Maybe southern Italy will work, Calabrian and Sicily. Or skiing in the north, I haven’t skied the Alps in years. Who knows?
