We have seen a deal and tromped a lot around this city. It is an amazing conglomeration of, well, stuff. There are things that surprise you, things that scare you and just plain things. Every corner of this city that we go to seems individual, part of the city but a different feel, view, structure, smell, taste, texture.
All that aside, another shrine, Fushimi Anari Taisha Shrine. There are many torii gates here, thousands of them. There is a path to walk that goes 4 kms up the hill and back down. Quite amazing. Of course there are specific shrines to different deities and places to make wishes and collect amulets. The colours are vibrant and happy, orange/red is like that. We walked a good deal of it but hold off the full 4 kms, not our schtick.
After the shrine we wanted to return to Nishiki Market. There was lots there and it deserved a second look. Train works well, we found a couple things on the way to the train. There was a local knife shop that had some beautiful pieces, so we bought one. They are incredibly sharp and well made. As well, we found a little curio shop that had some great things, we found a mask for the wall that should fit
We are now off to the Nishiki market again. Jane wants to find some Cherry Blossom Sake that we tasted on our last visit. Once off the bus we wandered around the area and found a normal shopping area just outside the Nishiki market. Some nice stores but not what we are looking for. Once back in the market we find the shop and are disappointed that they make the Sake right there and do not sell it bu the bottle. Jane had to drown her sorrows in a bottle of sparkling Sake instead.
We went out for my birthday dinner to a Wagyu beef restaurant. We were early so we had a drink in a Mexican taco bar. They had live band karaoke! We didn’t stick around. The restaurant is quite small, 6 seats and a private room, it’s the Hibatchi Wagyu Restaurant. Everything is prepared right in front of you, it was a little sort of scattered, I think because they had only been open a few months and were still getting used to the place. Everything was excellent! Wagyu is different than our own regular beef, much more fat marbling so it looks quite different. There is Wagyu in Canada I understand.
